The dramatic news of the abrupt death of Ishmael Muscat also sent a shockwave through the Nordic Ways office this morning. Ishmael was a highly-appreciated regular participant at our bike events over the past six years, and his enthusiasm and dedication for the sport was an example for many. His passing is a big loss for the community.
Changing lives one smile at a time is a great life's motto that every participant in the Genghis Khan Festival literally can live up to. Our charity partner Operation Smile has just introduced a professional fundraising page on Simplygiving.com for all people to help children with cleft lips and palates in the more needy regions of China.
The majority of participants in the Genghis Khan Festival pass through Beijing on their way to or from the Xiwuqi grasslands. For people in Beijing there is certainly no better way to prepare for the Grassland Marathon than the HeyRunning camp set up by Swedish fitness enthusiast Linus Holmsäter. Since the inaugural 10-week-long camp last year, HeyRunning has become so popular that signing up early is a must! The new camp starts on 5 May and leads right up to your favourite running event in Inner Mongolia.
As previously announced, the 2013 Genghis Khan Festival will introduce a new competition that will crown the King and Queen of the Grasslands. The honorary title will go to the athlete who completes the 200km of mountainbiking and 42km of marathon running in the fastest time. Shanghai-based German Hauke Stockrahm is one of two men, the other being China's Ji Xinli, who acccomplished this remarkable feat already last year. And he's coming back!
Nordic Ways is very happy to see participant registrations for the Genghis Khan Festival being broken again for the second year in a row. At the end of the Early Bird phase yesterday, we have noted an increase in registrations of close to 500% year-on-year!
